Jilda Unruh joined WHDH-TV, Channel 7 in April of 1994 as the specialist for Channel 7's "Childwatch." "Childwatch" focuses on the issues and concerns confronting children.
Unruh brings more than thirteen years of journalism experience to her new position with WHDH-TV. She began her broadcast career in 1979 at KOTV-TV(CBS) in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she held various positions, including General Assignment Reporter and Weekend Anchor. In 1984, Unruh moved over to KTUL-TV(ABC) in Tulsa where she was the Director of Community Affairs. Her responsibilities included hosting, writing and producing a monthly half-hour documentary, as well as coordinating public service campaigns and community outreach programs.
In 1987, Unruh became the Host and Executive Producer of "The Jilda Unruh Show" for KTUL-TV, which was Tulsa's only daily, live, half-hour, audience-participation talk show. From 1988 until most recently, Unruh held various positions at WPLG-TV(ABC) in Miami, Florida, including General Assignment Reporter, Investigative Reporter, and Weekend Anchor.
During her career, Unruh has been the recipient of numerous industry awards. She has received two National Commendation Awards, one for a news series in 1985, and the second for a television documentary in 1986. In 1986, Unruh also received an American Advertising Federation ADDY Award for the Best 30-second Television Public Service Announcement entitled "Domestic Violence." She has received two awards ('86 and '87) for Best Television Documentary from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. In 1991, Unruh was the recipient of a Florida School Bell Award for Best News Series entitled, "Absent With Malice." Most recently, Unruh received two EMMY Awards for Investigative Reporting Series' in 1992.
Unruh received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and American History from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1978.
