Vicki Kennedy applauds Supreme Court decision upholding health care reform

A smiling Vicki Kennedy stood just over President Obama’s right shoulder as he signed the bill in March 2010. Her husband, who said health care reform was “the cause of my life,” had died in August 2009.
Victoria Reggie Kennedy, the widow of the late US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a driving force behind health care reform for years during his tenure in the Senate, lauded the Supreme Court decision today upholding the Affordable Care Act.
“We still have much work to do to implement the law, and I hope we can all come together now to complete that work,” she added. “The stakes are too high for us to do otherwise.”
“As my late husband Senator Edward Kennedy said: ‘What we face is above all a moral issue; that at stake are not just the details of policy, but fundamental principles of social justice and the character of our country,’” she said in a statement.
Senator Kennedy once called health care reform “the cause of my life.” But he died before the law was passed.
Poltico reports that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called Vicki Kennedy after the decision was released and told her, “Now, Teddy can rest.”
