Representative John Tierney, facing a stern reelection challenge from Republican Richard Tisei, today announced that all of his fellow Democrats in the state’s US House delegation had endorsed his bid for reelection.
The statement echoed a recent one that touted the endorsement of Democratic mayors across his North Shore district. Together, they highlighted Tierney’s effort to shore up his political base as he struggles to overcome family legal troubles that have affected his campaign.
“Congressman John Tierney is a tireless nuclear watchdog and advocate for the health and safety of all those living around the Seabrook nuclear power plant,” Representative Edward J. Markey, the dean of the all-Democratic, 10-member delegation, said in a statement announcing the group endorsement.
The other members, listed in order of congressional seniority, issued similar testimonials that touched on the Salem Democrat’s support for their respective areas of interest.
“I’ve known John to be a tenacious partner in advancing the issues that matter to women and standing up to Republican efforts to undo so much of our progress,” said Representative Niki Tsongas in one of the comments.
The statement concludes with the Tierney campaign’s own pitch, highlighting his committee assignments and seniority.
“The congressman continues to be the only member from Massachusetts to serve on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and is a senior member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,” it said.
