Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley plans to announce candidacy for Boston mayor, sources say
Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley will announce his candidacy for mayor on Wednesday, two individuals close to the campaign said Tuesday.
“He’s going to go for it,” said one person close to the campaign, adding that Conley would issue a press statement and hold a media availability Wednesday, with a formal kickoff coming later.
Conley will likely be the best-funded elected official to enter the race to succeed five-term incumbent Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who announced last week he will not seek reelection. Conley closed out 2012 with more than $868,000 in his account.
A Hyde Park city councilor before being appointed to the county post in 2002, Conley won the seat outright in November of that year.
