Pondering 2016 bid, Rep. Peter King of N.Y. will visit Boston

US Representative Peter King, a New York Republican, plans to stop in Boston on Friday en route to New Hampshire, the nation’s first state to vote in a presidential primary, as he tests the waters for a possible 2016 presidential bid.

King, a foreign policy hawk who recently has urged President Obama to intervene in Syria, will meet with former Massachusetts Republican Party chairwoman Jennifer Nassour, according to Nassour.

King has said publicly that he is weighing a run for the White House.

“His foreign policy experience, his years in Congress, and the fact that he’s able to cross the aisle make him an ideal candidate to run for president,” Nassour said in a telephone interview.

King will appear at the Carroll County Republican annual lobster bake in Wolfeboro on Saturday, said New Hampshire GOP activist Mac Kittredge.

King is also scheduled to appear in the Granite State the following weekend, as the keynote speaker at a picnic in Dover sponsored by the Strafford County Republican Committee picnic.
