Governor Patrick and Mayor Menino to testify on gun control measures at State House

After a summer of emotional, heavily attended forums on gun legislation, the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee is set to hear testimony at a State House hearing Friday that is expected to draw hundreds of people and testimony from Mayor Thomas M. Menino of Boston and Governor Deval Patrick.

The hearing, scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Gardner Auditorium at the State House, is open to the public and will be the fifth formal hearing on gun issues the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security has held since June.

With Menino and Patrick scheduled to testify in favor of new gun control measures, the State House hearing will swing the spotlight back onto the issue nine months after the school shootings in Newtown, Conn.
