Developer Ron Druker is proposing an 11-story office and retail building in Boston’s South End, one of many development proposals seeking to transform a scrubby industrial corner of the neighborhood.

The proposals come after a three-year effort to devise new building guidelines for the area between Washington and Albany Streets. In addition to Druker’s building, National Development is building a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods and 471 residences at the former Boston Herald headquarters,. Work is also slated to start soon on 380 homes and stores at 275 Albany Street, and another developer is seeking approval to build 560 apartments at 345 Harrison Ave., currently occupied by the Graybar building.

Each of those projects will feature multiple buildings between 5 and 20 stories.
