Some of the newest employees at the TD Banknorth Garden have a pretty short skate between home and work. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and his fiancée, Tatiana Biskupicova, purchased two units in the Union Wharf condos on Commercial Street from Margaret B. and John R. Towers for $2,375,500. The towering defenseman measures 6 feet 9 inches tall when he's not on skates, and played last season for the Ottawa Senators. Bruins center Marc Savard, who joined the team during the summer, is in a five-room, $1.2 million condo at Flagship Wharf in Charlestown. And coach Dave Lewis recently bought a $950,000 penthouse condo at the new 44 Prince St. development in the North End. Longtime Bruin P.J. Axelsson bought a condo in the new Atlantic building on Fleet Street for $1.5 million.
Two former Bruins are still the owners of record on Boston condos; Former captain Joe Thornton, with his penthouse condo at One Charles in Park Square that he bought about six weeks before being traded to San Jose, Calif., last year. And former Bruins goalie Andrew Raycroft owns a 1,197-square-foot condo on Causeway Street.
Talk radio guy Jay Severin, who returned to Boston's WTKK (96.9 FM) airwaves last month, and his wife, Renee, bought a 7,624-square-foot mansion on Highland Avenue in Manchester-by-the-Sea for $2.2 million from Catherine A. Hull. The house, which county records say has 17 rooms, eight bedrooms, and 5 1/2 baths, is on nearly 5 1/2 acres.
