In Lexington's Pheasant Brook Estate neighborhood, each one-of-a-kind house is more magnificent than the next, with a variety of details and materials that run the gamut of architectural styles. This one stands tall, with two peaked roofs, instead of wide like most here. Tucked just so, the house is narrow at one end where it squeezes between a pond and conservation land, and then widens as the property opens up.

The owners fell in love with the land in the 1990s, imagining their dream house on a pond, with woods on two sides. The lot is an unusual shape, the home's footprint limited because of wetlands. Working with Deck House architects, the owners used steel cantilevers to support a three-story post-and-beam structure with a lot of glass. The result is a light-filled, airy interior. Small rooms at the home's narrow end feel like glass boxes. The seating area for the kitchen is a delightful spot that rises two stories. Walls of glass return in the dining room and the living room, which also features a corner European-style fireplace. And those small rooms at the end are used as offices, unusually situated at "mezzanine" levels between each of the main three floors. The entire home is lit with recess lighting.

The mahogany front doors have a waffle pattern. Floors are natural oak, and the color theme throughout is white, pale pink, teal and other pastels. Bathrooms and kitchen use Corian and Formica, but also marble. The master bathroom includes a bidet. Listing brokers are JJ Tanzer and Norma Perry of Carlson GMAC Real Estate.
