2. Don't use flat-finish paint in any house intended for human beings
Little humans especially, who leave surprisingly large fingerprints that won't wash off flat-finish wall paint worth a damn.
Use paint with a slightly harder finish, typically called pearl or satin. For the woodwork you want acrylic (not latex) semigloss the brush marks will be less conspicuous.
