Brookline

BROOKLINE -- In a few weeks, voters here can back the impeachment of President Bush and slap the back of a hometown boy for his good works.

The hometown boy is New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, a Brookline High graduate and his wife, Myra. The Kraft family has donated to numerous civic works, including the cost of ''premium synthetic turf" at Harry Downes Field. Voters will be asked to rename the field the ''The Kraft Family Athletic Facility at Harry Downes Field."

Voters will also be asked to urge members of Congress to seek the impeachment of the president for his Iraqi policies.

More commonplace concerns have occupied town administrator Richard Kelliher, including a $2 million reconstruction of Beacon Street and a tight budget.

''The town has been able to make it through the cutback period the last couple of years without having to eliminate any services," he said. ''It doesn't mean we are not struggling to make ends meet."

He said the high school has been renovated and all but two of the elementary schools have gotten face-lifts. The last two are to be upgraded in the next six years.

On a recent week, Realtor.com listed 123 single-family homes, ranging from $429,000 for a three-bed, one-bath, 1,088-square-foot home to $8.85 million for a four-bed, six-bath, 9,598-square-foot home. Median price of a single-family home in early 2006 was $964,000, according to the Warren Group.
