That is where the art of staging – making inexpensive fixes, setting a mood, and creating an atmosphere – comes into play.

"Staging a house will typically shorten the length of time a house is on the market and may result in a higher sales price," said Sheila Selby, an interior designer and a stager who operates the Boston-area firm On The Move Interiors.

She offers these tips for prepping both your home and yard before entering the market.
