A famous former owner sometimes can deter a potential buyer. Deborah and Randall Boles loved the pink Victorian on Chester Street in Lowell as soon as they saw it. But they worried the two-family house -- the birthplace of Bette Davis -- might be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Once they learned the property was not registered, they jumped at the opportunity to buy it five years ago.
