The view from the upstairs hallway is framed by a colorful runner that contrasts with the monochromatic scheme in the living room below. "The owner didn't want the house to look too cozy," says designer Jon Hattaway of M.J. Berries Design. "We agreed we wanted a look that was clean and uncluttered, not necessarily modern, but classic."
