Fan Pier, a long-neglected area of the South Boston Waterfront, has undergone a transformation over the past decade. The John Joseph Moakley US courthouse opened in 1998 and just last year Fan Pier became home to the Institute of Contemporary Art. Now, developer Joseph F. Fallon, who purchased the land in 2005, has promised to further enhance the pier.
