Research communities
If your first priority is a good school district, and your second priority is low crime, youll want to look for the places that rank best in those two areas. Check out our community profiles where you can research individual towns, compare towns, and see rankings in housing taxes, home values, and more. Go to Communities. You can look at a list of all towns if youre not sure about which one might be right for you or search for the towns youre considering.

Sometimes its hard to relocate to a new state without knowing the history or details of the towns. One way to gauge the prices is to look at recent sales information in the area. Prices do differ by region and by town, so check the prices around the area where youre looking to make sure youre getting the best deal. Before this information was available on the internet, you could go to the local courthouse and look up public sales records, but the digital age has ushered in a much more convenient way to do this sort of research.
Its also a good idea to research different housing types since a Colonial will typically sell for more than a modular home. You might also prefer one style over another so its good to think about the style of home youre looking for. Research different housing types available single family, multi-family, condo, townhouse, etc.
