WEST BRIDGEWATER -- David and Liz McKeen recall being instantly drawn to the historical character of the Captain Dunbar Home, an Antique Colonial that dates back to 1799.
"We just really always loved antiques," said Liz McKeen.
As owners, they have worked to preserve many of the house's original details, including the wide pine floors, windows, and six fireplaces. They have also made some changes to bring the home into the 21st century.
The modest kitchen area was once closed off from the first-floor family room, but the two spaces are now adjoined, separated only by a low wall. A sunroom in back of the house is used as a more informal living and play area. The first floor also includes the formal dining room, a bedroom, and an office.
The three bedrooms on the second floor are organized around a large sitting area, similar to the first-floor family room. The family has also installed a laundry room on the second floor. The house features a large attic that is plumbed for a possible third bathroom.
The home is situated on 5.4 acres at the end of a quiet street near Route 24. The property also includes a large horse barn, outdoor paddocks, and an indoor riding arena, which is leased out. The property is offered by Jack Conway & Co.
