Former Red Sox shortstop Edgar Renteria's 1,504-square-foot penthouse condo at the Ritz Towers was sold to Amy J. Mercier and John J. Morgan for $1.599 million. Renteria, who now patrols the infield for the Atlanta Braves, bought the two-bedroom, 2 1/2 -bath unit a little bit more than a year ago for $1.55 million. The Ritz Towers has been home for several Sox players, including David Ortiz, Kevin Foulke, and Manny Ramirez, whose 4,500-square-foot penthouse spread is still on the market for $6.9 million. Former outfielder Johnny Damon and his wife, Michelle, lived in the same building with their teammates before moving to Brookline for his last year in a Sox uniform. That 7,000-square-foot, six-bedroom house in Chestnut Hill is on the market for $5.75 million.
The 1,752-square-foot Back Bay condo owned by the late Howard B. Gotlieb, founding curator of Boston University's department of special collections, was sold to Tobias D. Barker and Yesha R. Patel, Boston, for $1 million, according to county records. Located on Commonwealth Avenue, the unit has six rooms, three bedrooms, and two baths. Gotlieb died late last year. In 2003, the university named the department he presided over for 42 years the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center in his honor. Containing the papers of some 2,000 public figures, including Albert Einstein and Martin Luther King Jr., the collection is worth close to $100 million.
