State foreclosure database unveiled
Interested in how many homes are in foreclosure in your town?
The state Division of Banks yesterday launched a database for the general public with limited foreclosure information.
The database shows the town, the price, and the date of the foreclosure sale but doesn't include the address or names of former homeowners or mortgage holders.
State officials said detailed information was withheld to protect the privacy of individuals in foreclosure. The entire database was made available to public safety and code-enforcement officials several weeks ago.
The Web-based resource, available at www.mass.gov/dob, allows the state to study trends and monitor brokers and lenders whose loans have high frequencies of foreclosure.![]()
