Anyone who has launched on the Sudbury River from the South Bridge Boathouse has probably noticed this home. It is distinguished by three brick arches that mark a small patio at the end of a grassy knoll above the river. The river commands the view from the inside, too, through the oversize windows, glass panels, and a three-season porch at the living-family room in the rear. And on the second floor, the master bedroom has six large windows that look out at the river.

Many period details were retained when current owners renovated 11 years ago and added such features as recessed lighting, skylights, and a new kitchen. The living room fireplace has raised molding details, and the family room has a built-in wall unit and bookshelves. Rooms at the front and sides of the home also sport such older details as large windows with black metal grills, which make a pretty statement against the gray color with white trim and columns at the front door.

The kitchen is simple but tasteful, with light oak cabinets, Corian counters, a granite-top center island, and high-end stainless appliances. The table tucks into a bay window overlooking the quiet street. A side office has a built-in desk and cabinet where there was once a dumbwaiter, and a rear stair leads to a third floor with two additional bedrooms. The master bathtub is claw foot, and a glass-encased shower includes power jets. All bathrooms are in excellent condition, most done in white with some black details. “This is for a unique buyer who loves an antique and wants to be on the river near the center of town,’’ said Carol Smith, listing broker for Hammond Residential, GMAC Real Estate, who will hold an open house from 1-3 p.m. today.
