Bungalow-style home grew with times

Although it’s difficult to imagine this sprawling home as the 1,400-square-foot summer bungalow it originated as, the front porch and narrow second-floor dormer hint at its humble past. Today, the multilevel home spreads out from the original structure, with a ’70s-era addition on one end and a new family room and office, built by the current owners in 2002, at the other. In the center of it all is a renovated kitchen with natural maple cabinets, beadboard detailing, and a large peninsula.
Next to the kitchen is the dining room. Once the living room, it has a brick fireplace and glass doors leading to a three-season front porch that looks out on a wooded knoll. Around the bend is a modern living room that features built-in shelves and cabinets, a bar with wine refrigerator, modern pendulum lighting, and lots of windows. The family room and office, which is in good shape but could use a touch-up, are off the other side of the kitchen.
The bedrooms are upstairs, past a Craftsman-style window and shelves that took the place of a second window. There are two good-size bedrooms with slanted ceilings decorated for children - car wallpaper on one, pink and red paint in the other. New windows keep the spacious 20-by-17 master bedroom snug this time of year. A small balcony off the room practically touches the trees outside.
“We bought it from people who lived here 30 years,’’ said Heather Manolian, who owns the home with her husband, Richard. “We’re only the third owners. It holds a family well and has great flow when we entertain.’’
“This is an incredible price for the square footage,’’ said Judy Murray-Magill of Keller Williams Realty, the listing broker. An open house will be held from noon to 2 p.m. today.![]()
