The crown of this Roxbury townhouse is a spacious rooftop deck that offers panoramic views of Boston, including distant Dorchester Bay, as well as a birds-eye view of Highland Park below with its landmark Victorian-era water tower. This is a townhouse of the old style, narrow and tall with high ceilings, and just two main rooms on each floor.

On the first is a formal dining room, painted chocolate, with a working fireplace with original white marble mantle. The kitchen has a black granite cooking island, with white cabinets, with a pot hanger above. The kitchen also has a pantry and a vast amount of shelving. A deck overlooks the backyard.

A beautiful winding staircase leads to the second floor where there is a full modern bath at the head of the stairs. Adjacent is a massive living room painted a deep red accented by period crown molding. Here, too, is a fireplace with original white marble mantle. A large guest bedroom, painted blue with crown molding, completes the floor.

The third floor is given over to a master suite, with a back wall of large windows that lets in natural light. Nearby, a cast-iron stairwell corkscrews to the deck. The full bath has rows of glass block windows letting light into the space. The remainder of the floor is currently used as living space, but can be returned to bedroom use.

The basement has a one-bedroom unit — rental or nanny ready — with a separate entrance. Bill Dellea of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage on Tremont Street is holding an open house today from 2 to 4 p.m.
