Why People Choose to House-Hunt
I recently got a message from one of my “happy homeowners,” (these are people who bought homes with me over the years.) This homeowner called me for advice because she expects to be back in the market soon.
I got a message machine when I called back. That leaves me guessing all day: Why is she coming back into the market now? I have some guesses: she’s in love and getting married, she got a huge promotion and wants to get a bigger place, she got a huge promotion and is relocating...
The things that bring buyers into the real estate market are often the flip side of what leads people into foreclosure. On June 25, I described some of the people who foreclose this way: “people to whom ‘life happened:’ those who were transferred, had twins, divorced...or otherwise had to sell suddenly before they could accumulate equity.”
One of the perks of being a buyer’s agent is that I mostly meet people when they are in expansive and positive times in their lives. I work with people in love, expecting children, and/or doing well financially. For these people, life is “happening,” too, but is it mostly the good stuff. Some days, I just love my job.
I await the call back from my buyer to find out the type of good fortune that has befallen her. I’m a romantic, so I hope she is in love!
