Construction cost survey

Posted by Rona Fischman July 1, 2008 03:54 PM

The conversation has turned to the topic of fixer-uppers. So, I have designed another survey. If you have done work on your old house, whether it was a fixer-upper or an OK-place-but-needed-something-along-the-way, you can help put some numbers to the projects.

Thank you for your participation.

  1. I look forward to seeing the results. They should be tremendously useful. Your list of renovations was expansive. Any way that you could add in environmental remediation (asbestos, lead paint, mold, etc) because it's extremely difficult to research those costs? Maybe some on landscaping (tree removal, lawn replacement, drainage, sprinkler systems, etc) too. The other thing is it would be extremely useful to have access to entire entries rather than crunched numbers so that we could tell if the renovations were done at market rate and the level of quality materials and work. Thank you very much. This could prove to be invaluable for your clients and for the rest of us too.

  1. I added a question at the end to include the things I missed. Thank you "waiting." For the people who already did the survey, you can do it again, but only answer the last question.

  1. Rona, terrific survey. It might help to have a question on there as to whether or not the individual participating has access to trade discounts - it made a significant difference in our renovation costs because I do have access to them.

I didn't see the question re: landscaping costs. Also, I'd love to know if folks are actually filing for town permits.
