You snooze you lose in this housing market.
The number of homes and condos for sale across Greater Boston has hit record lows.
And anything half decent is sure to draw lots of interest.
So if you like what you see as you scroll through the online listings or peruse your Sunday paper, you need to act fast.
Forget about waiting for the open house. By that time, there may very well be an accepted offer. Instead, get in right away for a private showing and be ready to make an offer.
Just ask Jim, who offered this tale of dashed hopes on the comment board of this blog after making the mistake of waiting for the open house.
I was trying to get to an open house in Brighton on September 7th as indicated. Today that house is off the market. you figure. and boy.. that house has central AC which you guys really like along with granite table top which all my friends want. oh well...
Yes... it is still hot...
I thought Lance and BostonTenter were right on in their advice to Jim.
Jim: Serious buyers don't wait until the open house. Serious buyers insist on a private showing immediately as soon as a listing appears (really serious buyers don't wait for the MLS listing to appear--they approach the seller directly).
And here's BostonTenter, who after a couple years of searching high and low, finally landed his "dream house" last fall. Along the way, he learned a lot, even getting his real estate license.
Lance is spot on here.
Thats how we "captured" our current/dream house, last fall. Got it locked up BEFORE the 1st Open House (with a little adventure).
