Ready for Office Park Living?

Not sure whether office park apartments are the wave of the future, but it definitely is an interesting idea!

Boston developer Cabot, Cabot & Forbes wants to build apartments in the middle of a Route 128 corporate park.

CC&F would level a gym and replace it with 334 apartments renting out for $1,800 to $4,200 a month. The project will also include 81 subsidized units, reserved for moderate and lower-income families, which will start at about $1,000.

CC&F says it is aiming its project at young professionals. Proposed for 135 Wells Ave., the apartment project would come with a cafe and a Workbar location, which will provide co-working space for start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Here's what the developer had to say.

"By adding mixed-use development near employment, we create a better "live-work-play" environment which today's employers and employees demand," said John Sullivan, senior project manager for CC&F, in an announcement on the project.

However, Newton officials say they are not sold yet on the office park apartments, concerned, among other things, about replacing typically lucrative commercial property with a residential project.

Certainly an after-dinner stroll through the neighborhood could prove to be a bit different, with tech companies and the studios of New England Cable News among the neighbors.
