Single-family home sales by community, 2006-2007
The impact of the housing downturn varied widely last year among Massachusetts cities and towns, according Warren Group data.
In 2007, the state's overall housing market overall experienced declining sales and prices. The downturn continued to take back some of the record appreciation in home values that occurred during the boom earlier in the decade.
But data from The Warren Group, a Boston real estate and research firm, indicates that the impact was uneven. For example, in Beverly, the median price of homes sold dropped 3.6 percent from 2006 to 2007. Prices also fell by 9 percent in Belmont and 5.7 percent in Holbrook on the South Shore.
But other communities experienced price gains: Ipswich's median price for homes sold rose 11.4 percent; Somerville, 6.5 percent; and Boxford, 3.8 percent.
The Warren Group provided price-change and sales in Massachusetts cities and towns between 2006 and 2007 for condominiums and single-family home sales. Here is a look at the data for single-family home sales. – Kimberly Blanton, Globe Staff
