2003-04 Red Sox and Yankees
The Red Sox and Yankees, like many rival teams, have been in a state of perpetual rematch since they began play. In 2003, the Red Sox and Yankees engaged in an epic seven-game American League championship series that brought us Pedro vs. Clemens, Pedro vs. Don Zimmer and Grady Little vs Common Sense. The 2004 ALCS was as hyped as any rematch not involving a Super Bowl or Muhammad Ali. Thankfully, it surpassed its billing, at least for those living north and east of Waterbury, Conn. The first shot of this particular rematch was fired by Jason Varitek when he slapped down Alex Rodriquez during the Red Sox come-from-behind win over New York on July 24. The Red Sox make 2004 a Year of Vengeance by winning their 37-year-delayed rematch with the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.
