Former Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi was among those who helped the injured at the site of the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday.
Andruzzi was photographed carrying a woman by Globe photographer Bill Greene. He released a statement in which he said he would prefer not to talk about his experience.
“Marathon Monday should be about uplifting stories, personal challenges and fundraising milestones, but today’s bombings irrevocably changed that,” Andruzzi said.
“They were the true heroes. Our thoughts prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”
Andruzzi was at the marathon to support a team that was running to raise money for his charity.
Andruzzi played for the Patriots from 2000-2004. His three brothers are New York City firefighters who were in action during the Sept. 11 attacks.
