The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to hold its first ever event in Maine this summer.
UFC president Dana White announced on Thursday that the promotion will bring a Fight Night event to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Aug. 16.
White, who grew up in Boston and has deep roots in Maine as well, expressed his excitement over the news on Twitter.
The card, set to air of Fox Sports 1, will be the UFC’s first trip to the Pine Street State since it legalized the sport in 2009.
It will also marks the promotion’s return to New England after last year’s Fight Night event in Boston at the TD Garden, which was headlined by a light-heavyweight clash between former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Chael Sonnen.
No bouts have been announced yet for the Maine event.
