During the Red Sox magical run to the 2013 World Series, it seemed like Lady Luck was on their side at every turn.
But she couldn’t help the Sox out on Wednesday night at the 22d ESPY Awards, as the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks won the award for Best Team, beating the 2013 Red Sox, among others.
The awards for Top Male and Female Athletes went to Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, respectively.
Peyton Manning won the award for Best Record-Breaking Performance after setting the single season touchdowns record with 55 and record for most passing yards (5,477).
The award for Best Play went to Chris Davis of the Auburn football team, who returned a missed field goal attempt 109 yards for a game-winning touchdown in Auburn’s Iron Bowl win over Alabama.
Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay player drafted into the NFL, was awarded the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage and gave an emotional and inspiring speech after accepting the award.
One of the most moving moments of the night was when Stuart Scott was honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. Scott, who has been battling cancer for seven years, gave an incredible speech that left most watching with tears in their eyes.
