Former Boston College goalie Scott Clemmensen made 18 saves for his second road shutout and the New Jersey Devils moved closer to playoff form with a 5-0 victory at Atlanta last night.

The defending Stanley Cup champions, 1-2-1 in their last four games, moved within a point of fifth-place Ottawa and four points ahead of Montreal in the Eastern Conference.

Sabres 5, Penguins 1 -- Jay McKee and Chris Drury scored in a one-minute span in the second period for host Buffalo. The win helped the Sabres climb within six points of the New York Islanders for the eighth and final playoff berth in the East.

Sharks 3, Coyotes 0 -- Vesa Toskala had 30 saves for his first shutout in nearly a year as visiting San Jose moved closer to winning the Pacific Division crown. Vincent Damphousse had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who opened a five-point lead over idle Dallas with their 40th victory.

Oilers 3, Kings 1 -- Petr Nedved scored his 300th career goal to help Edmonton beat visiting Los Angeles. Nedved, acquired from the Rangers March 3, has four goals and six assists since joining the Oilers.

Blue Jackets 3, Mighty Ducks 1 -- Fred Brathwaite made 43 saves and rookie Nikolai Zherdev had a goal for host Columbus.
