Law is arrested after traffic stop in Florida

Ty Law was arrested early Saturday morning in Miami on misdemeanor charges of failure to obey a police officer and resisting an officer without violence.

The Patriots' Pro Bowl cornerback spent several hours in custody before being released on a $1,500 cash bond.

Law, who has an offseason home in Miami, declined comment yesterday through his publicist.

The alleged incident occurred during a traffic stop in the South Beach section of Miami, at about 1 a.m., according to the police report. Law arrived at Miami Beach County Jail at 4:30 a.m. and posted bond at approximately 6:15 a.m.

Reached yesterday, Law's agent, Carl Poston, relayed Law's version of the events: officers were directing traffic, Law did not understand the instructions, said so, and was instructed to pull over. Poston claims one of the officers used excessive force and went so far as to toss Law's wallet in his face. Poston said Law did not consume any alcohol that night.

Poston said Law is considering filing a complaint.

"Basically, it was a routine traffic stop that turned into a misunderstanding due to an overzealous police officer," Poston said. "Ty is weighing his options."

A call to police officials seeking comment was not returned.

"We're aware of the report," said Patriots spokesman Stacey James, "and we're attempting to gather more information. We don't have any comment at this time."
