United belt MetroStars

Alecko Eskandarian had two goals and Earnie Stewart scored for the first time since last September, leading D.C. United to a 6-2 win over the MetroStars yesterday in Washington.

The six goals tied a D.C. franchise record, set July 7, 1996, against Dallas. The win also moved United (5-5-5) into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Jaime Moreno had a goal and two assists, including the goal that gave D.C. the lead for good in the 37th minute.

Crew 2, Fire 0 -- Edson Buddle and Jeff Cunningham scored late in the first half, helping host Columbus beat Chicago. Goalkeeper Jon Busch earned his fourth shutout of the season for the Crew (5-5-3).

Wizards 5, Burn 1 -- Davy Arnaud scored three goals, leading host Kansas City past Dallas and into first place in the Western Conference.
