'Score' looking to sweep

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Even the Score will try to become the second horse to sweep Hollywood Park's three major dirt races for older horses today in the 65th running of the Gold Cup, a 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

Rock Hard Ten, second to Smarty Jones in this year's Preakness, will run in the Swaps Breeders' Cup Stakes earlier in the day.

Even the Score, trained by Vladimir Cerin, has earned $661,629. Eleven Stitches is the only horse to win the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap, The Californian, and Hollywood Gold Cup in the same year, having accomplished the feat in 1981.

Yessirgeneralsir and Olmodavor figure to be the top challengers.

Yessirgeneralsir, a 4-year-old son of Patton, has won three of eight starts; Olmodavor, a 5-year-old son of A.P. Indy, has won five of 13 races.

Others entered are Total Impact, Continental Red, Gift Of the Eagle, and Royal Moro. Each of the seven entries will carry 124 pounds.
