IVY LEAGUE ROUNDUP

Penn streak alive, well

Quakers rally to extend run

Freshman Derek Zoch kicked a 27-yard field goal with 2:54 remaining to give visiting Penn a 16-15 victory over Princeton yesterday for its 20th straight Ivy League win.

Pat McDermott threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Marabella as the Quakers (7-1, 5-0) rallied from a 15-7 fourth-quarter deficit to hand the Tigers (4-4, 2-3) their third straight loss.

Penn's victory wasn't assured until Princeton's Derek Javarone missed a 41-yard field goal wide right with 18 seconds to play. He had kicked field goals of 27, 32, and 33 yards before missing.

It marked the second straight week that Penn rallied in the fourth quarter to keep the streak alive. This one set up an Ivy League showdown with Harvard (8-0, 5-0) Saturday in Philadelphia.

Von Bryant scored on a 12-yard run for Penn's other touchdown, while Greg Fields tallied on an 8-yard run for Princeton.

Penn's winning drive was kept alive by Marabella, who made a diving, one-handed catch for a 23-yard gain on third down early in the drive.

Zoch's first career field goal came seconds after he missed a 22-yard attempt. However, the play was blown dead by a procedure penalty. Prior to the kick, Penn had missed 10 of 13 field goal attempts inside the 40 this season.

Brown 24, Yale 17 -- Nick Hartigan scored two TDs, including the winning score early in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bears past the Elis in Providence. Hartigan rushed for 135 yards on 41 carries for Brown (5-3, 2-3). He scored the go-ahead TD four seconds into the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.

Alvin Cowan threw for two touchdowns and completed 31 of 57 passes for 419 yards for Yale (4-4, 2-3). He was intercepted three times.

Cornell 14, Dartmouth 7 -- At Ithaca, N.Y., Ryan Kuhn threw for 135 yards and a touchdown to give the Big Red (3-5, 3-2) the victory over the Big Green (0-8, 0-5). Kuhn hit Chad Nice with a 50-yard TD pass in the second quarter for the deciding touchdown.
