United shuts out MetroStars

Bobby Boswell, Dema Kovalenko and Joshua Gros scored goals to give D.C. United a 3-0 victory last night over the MetroStars in Washington.

Gros capped the chippy contest by juking MetroStars defender Jeff Parke and blasting a shot just inside the right post past goalkeeper Tony Meola for a 3-0 lead in the 88th minute.

During his second minute of action, reserve Jamil Walker charged the net on a breakaway, luring Meola to the front of the box, then fed a crossing pass to Kovalenko. He scored an uncontested goal to give United (10-6-5) a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Wizards 3, Fire 2 -- Josh Wolff scored a pair of goals for the Kansas City Wizards, who rallied from a two-goal deficit in the first six minutes and beat host Chicago.

Wolff's second goal in the 68th minute gave the Wizards the win.

Galaxy 1, Chivas USA 0 -- Landon Donovan scored on a late penalty kick to give host Los Angeles the victory and make teammate Kevin Hartman MLS's all-time winningest goalkeeper with his 102d career victory.
