Columbus to face Japan

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Brady Hamilton drove in two runs, J.T. Phillips struck out eight, and Josh Lester made a nice grab of a line drive to thwart a rally, helping Columbus, Ga., defeat Beaverton, Ore., 7-3, yesterday to win the US title and advance to the championship game of the Little League World Series.

Hamilton broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning by flaring a pitch from Jace Fry just out of the shortstop's reach to score Phillips from second. Columbus got some breathing room with three runs in the sixth.

Columbus will play Kawaguchi City, Japan, a 2-0 winner over Matamoros, Mexico, in today's title game.

Go Matsumoto homered and got starter Seigo Yada out of a sixth-inning jam with some sharp relief pitching to lift Japan to the international title.
