Keeping score around New England

Pros

Gallo takes low road
Kyle Gallo equaled the lowest 54-hole score in North American Pro Golf Tour history, 19-under-par 197, on his way to a two-shot victory at the Blackstone Open in Sutton. Having told himself before the tournament that 20 under was possible, Gallo shot 65-67-65 at Blackstone National GC and held off Michael Welch (64-69-66) by two shots to claim the $9,696 first-place prize. How sizzling were those two golfers? Consider the par-5 eighth, on which Gallo made eagle -- but didn't add to his lead, because Welch, his playing competitor, matched it. In the end, each of the 25 golfers who made the cut finished under par. The third of 10 events on the NAPGT schedule will begin Tuesday at Crumpin-Fox GC in Bernardston. Geoff Sisk of Marshfield closed with a 2-under 70, but it was more than enough to clinch the Providence Open, thanks to a course record-tying 63 the day before. In pushing to 11-under 133, Sisk claimed the $3,500 first-place check, finishing three ahead of Mark Baldwin (65-71) at Triggs Memorial GC. Scott Hawley of Shrewsbury ranks 11th on the Canadian PGA Tour's Order of Merit with $28,499. Allen Santos of Trull Brook shot 2-under 70 to score a two-stroke victory in an NEPGA Pro-Am at Needham CC. Mike Baker of Portsmouth CC was second, while John Hickson of Dick's Sporting Goods and Jim Burke of Leo J. Martin tied for third at 73.

Juniors

Kublin claims Ouimet
Craig Kublin of Needham shot 68-78--146 and scored a one-stroke victory in the Francis Ouimet Junior Stroke-Play Championship at Stow Acres and Juniper Hills. Brad Cadigan of South Weymouth (74-73) was tied for second with Connor Wentzell of Worcester (75-72), while Kaitlin Coons of Wilbraham shot 78-73 to win the girls' division. Colin Beaupre of Barre shot 2-over 72 to win an NEPGA Titleist Junior Tour tournament at Tatnuck CC in Worcester. Lauren Wentzell of Worcester (88) won the girls' division, while Nicholas Rodriguez of Shrewsbury won the boys' 14-15. At another tournament at Fresh Pond GC, Drew King of Woburn shot 77 to win the boys' 16-18 division. Steve Cronin of Burlington shot 79 to win the boys' 14-15; Adam Goldstein of Newton (78) captured the 12-13; and Andie Savel of Sudbury (84) took the girls' 14-18. At Windham CC, Jonathan Baldwin of Malden shot 74 to win by two; Nick Maccario (79) won the boys' 14-15; and Nicholas Pandelena of Atkinson, N.H. (76) took the 12-13. In the girls' 14-18 division, Anna Stepper of Billerica won. Peter Uihlein of Mattapoisett posted rounds of 71-70-74-73--288 to finish tied for fourth at the AJGA's Rolex Tournament of Champions at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Brittany Altomare of Shrewsbury (308) was tied for 30th in the girls' division. Kim Donovan of Hopkinton shot 82-80 and missed the cut.

Amateurs

Waiting out the rain
Torrential rain has caused problems for the US Amateur Public Links Championship in Wheaton, Ill., and a handful of locals have been waiting out the delays: Chris Hawley of Walpole, Hunter Stone of South Deerfield, Danny Arvinitis of Manchester, N.H., Peter Williamson of Hanover, N.H., Jesse Spiers of Bangor, and Conor McMahon of Portsmouth, R.I. Erik Okvist of Westford and Jeff Mucciarone of Westwood each shot 73 to share first place in a Boston Amateur Golf Society tournament at Sandy Burr CC in Wayland.

Fourth dimension
If you've always wanted to play alongside someone who makes a hole-in-one, you might want to book a spot in Bill Hill's foursome next July 4. There's something about golf on that holiday that brings good fortune. At his home course, White Cliffs CC in Plymouth, Hill used a 7-iron to ace the 155-yard 15th July 4, which was the ultimate case of history repeating itself because he made a hole-in-one on the Fourth a year earlier at that same hole, also with a 7-iron. His wife, Pat, has witnessed both shots. The annual CYO tournament is under way at Ponkapoag GC in Canton and it's already been a memorable event for one young golfer. Cam Alden, 12, of Wellesley, used a 5-wood to ace the 136-yard second hole on the No. 1 course during the opening day. Brian Hurton of West Roxbury used a pitching wedge to ace the 13th at Shaker Hills in Harvard.
