Blazers, indoor lacrosse returning to Garden

After a 10-year hiatus, the Boston Blazers announced their return yesterday to the 14-team National Lacrosse League and will play their games at TD Banknorth Garden. The Blazers, whose home opener will be Jan. 19 against the New York Titans, will play a 16-game regular season.

The team's new owner is Littleton native Tim Armstrong, who is president of advertising and commerce at Google Inc. He has hired former Blazers standout Tom Ryan as head coach.

"Boston is a great sports town and we know its fans expect championships," said Ryan, who won an NLL title with Philadelphia. "We are assembling a balanced roster of veterans and young players that should translate into an exciting brand of lacrosse. Our goal is to be competitive and play hard in every game."

The 1975 Boston Bolts were the first professional indoor lacrosse team to play in Boston. In 1992, the Major Indoor Lacrosse League's New England Blazers relocated to Boston Garden from the Worcester Centrum. Renamed the Boston Blazers, they played at the FleetCenter until 1997.

Ticket prices are $75, $50, $40, $35, $20, and $10, and are available by calling 1-888-849-2529, or at www.blazerslacrosse.com, the Garden box office, or Ticketmaster outlets.
