Vitale, Northeastern edge UNH

Joe Vitale recorded a goal and an assist and Brad Thiessen made 23 saves to lead Northeastern to a 2-1 victory over No. 4 New Hampshire last night in Durham, N.H.

The loss was the first of the season for the Wildcats (4-1-0, 2-1-0 Hockey East). The Huskies (2-4-0, 1-3-0) avenged Friday's 7-4 home loss to UNH.

The Wildcats struck first on Peter LeBlanc's tap-in at 5:36 of the first period, but Northeastern evened the score nine seconds later when Wade MacLeod redirected a Vitale shot from the slot past UNH goalie Kevin Regan.

Vitale gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead at 17:18 of the first period, converting a pass from Chris Donovan.

UNH had several chances to tie the game in the final two periods but couldn't solve Thiessen. The Wildcats were 0 for 3 on the power play in the second period, including a five-on-three advantage for 22 seconds.

Harvard 6, St. Lawrence 1 - Jack Christian had two goals, and Doug Rogers, Paul Dufault, and Jon Pelle each chipped in with a goal and an assist, lifting the Crimson (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECACHL) past the No. 16 Saints (3-5-0, 0-3-0) at Canton, N.Y.

Kyle Richter was outstanding in net for Harvard, making 42 saves, including 19 in the second period.

UMass 5, Merrimack 1 - At Amherst, freshman Mike Lecomte scored twice, and Will Ortiz, Alex Berry (shorthanded), and Matt Burto added goals, helping the No. 20 Minutemen (3-2-2, 1-1-2 Hockey East) breeze past the Warriors (4-3-0, 1-3-0).

Union 3, Yale 3 - At Schenectady, N.Y., Stephane Boileau netted the tying goal on the power play at 13:58 of the third period, giving the Dutchmen (2-2-2, 0-0-2 ECACHL) a tie with the Bulldogs (1-1-2, 0-0-2), who got 34 saves from Billy Blase.

Brown 2, Rensselaer 2 - Jeff Prough scored the tying goal with 42 seconds remaining to give the Bears (0-1-2, 0-0-2 ECACHL) a tie with the No. 17 Engineers (5-2-2, 0-0-2) at Troy, N.Y.

Clarkson 4, Dartmouth 3 - At Potsdam, N.Y., Tim Marks netted a hat trick, and the No. 11 Golden Knights (6-2, 3-0 ECACHL) overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Big Green (2-1, 1-1).

Cornell 5, Quinnipiac 3 - Mike Devin scored twice and Evan Barlow tallied the winning goal early in the third period, helping the Big Red (1-2-0, 1-1-0 ECACHL) break a tie and defeat the Bobcats (2-3-1, 0-1-1) at Ithaca, N.Y.

Army 5, Holy Cross 2 - Chase Podsiad scored twice as the Black Knights (2-3, 2-0 Atlantic Hockey) slipped past the Crusaders (2-2-1, 1-1-1) at Worcester.
