Richmond outlasts Delaware

Josh Vaughan scored on a 13-yard run in the fifth overtime as Richmond fended off Delaware, 62-56, yesterday at Newark, Del.

After Vaughan's score, Richmond's defense stopped Delaware (8-2, 5-2 Colonial Athletic) on a fourth-down pass to seal the victory.

The game brought together two of the three teams tied for first place overall in the conference, and allowed the Spiders (8-2, 6-1) to clinch the league's South Division title.

Richmond's Eric Ward passed for 199 yards and four TDs. Delaware's Joe Flacco threw for 375 yards and three TDs, and also ran for two scores, including the tying TD on the final play of regulation.

Maine 35, Rhode Island 0 - Mike Brusko ran for 146 yards and three TDs and threw for two scores to lead the host Black Bears (4-6, 3-4) over the Rams (2-8, 1-6).

James Madison 55, William & Mary 34 - The visiting Dukes (7-3, 5-2) ran for 371 yards and six TDs, including 171 yards and two scores from Rodney Landers, to rout the Tribe (4-6, 2-5).

Villanova 14, Towson 12 - Matt Dicken gained 103 of his 133 rushing yards in the second half and the Wildcats (6-4, 4-3) topped the Tigers (3-7, 1-6) at Towson, Md.
