Argentine World Cup veteran Claudio Lopez and Colombian forward Ivan Trujillo scored second-half goals in their Major League Soccer debuts, giving the host Kansas City Wizards a 2-0 victory over D.C. United last night in a season opener.

Kansas City goalkeeper Kevin Hartman (3 saves) extended his league record with his 68th career shutout.

Trujillo took a feed from Jack Jewsbury and made a sliding shot past keeper Zach Wells in the 47th minute. In the 61st minute, Lopez took a long pass from Ryan Pore at the top of the penalty area and chipped the ball over Wells.

Rapids 4, Galaxy 0 - David Beckham, who played 63 minutes for England at France Wednesday, put his teammates in position to tie the game three times but visiting Los Angeles was drubbed at Colorado. Christian Gomez, Terry Cooke, Omar Cummings, and Colin Clark scored for the Rapids.

In the 90th minute, Galaxy defender Abel Xavier was issued a red card after tackling Ciaran O'Brien. Right after that, O'Brien's hard tackle on Carlos Ruiz earned him a red card.

Fire 1, Real Salt Lake 1 - Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored in the second minute of stoppage time to give visiting Chicago a tie in a season opener.

Crew 2, Toronto FC 0 - Adam Moffat scored the first goal of the MLS season in host Columbus's victory.
