Pros
Dynamic duo
A pair of locals, Jamie Neher of Weston and Justin Peters of Pembroke, continued their stellar play on the Gateway Tour in south Florida. Neher fired rounds of 68-70-72 -210 to win last week's tournament at Hammock Creek GC, while Peters finished tied for eighth at 215. Through five tournaments, Peters is third on the money list with $18,959, Neher sixth at $13,812.

Frank Dully of Kernwood CC and James Antonelli of Marshfield CC tied for low pro honors with 71s in a New England PGA Pro-Am at Thorny Lea GC in Brockton. Scott Spence of the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, R.I., shot 72 to finish third. Antonelli and Dully also anchored teams that finished at 4-under 136 using both gross and net scores.

In an NEPGA Assistants Chapter tournament at the Hyannisport Club, Todd Cook of Tedesco and Jeffrey Martin of Point Judith CC recorded 72s to share first place. There was a trio tied for third at 76 - Robert Bradley of LeBaron Hills, Jeffrey Murphy of Tedesco, and Anthony Maki of Franklin CC.

Marlborough CC staff members had first place surrounded, albeit with different teams, during an NEPGA Pro-Am on the Pines Course at The International in Bolton. Playing with Hal Jacobs of Stow Acres, Mark Klotz shot 3-under 69 to tie his Marlborough CC colleague, Jim Landers, who was paired with Chris Kasheta of the host club. Steve Demmer of the Kittansett Club and Paul Barkhouse of Woburn CC shot 70 to finish third.

Chuck Frithsen and Rod Van Guilder combined to shoot 51 and win an NEPGA Senior Chapter tournament at Middleton GC. Charlie Volpone and Barkhouse shot 59 for low net honors, edging Paul Parajeckas and Harry Rose by one stroke. Volpone shot 53 for pro honors.

Jeff Dantas's 2-under 69 gave him a one-stroke victory over a trio of golfers - Tom Johnson, Bob Pandolfo, and Mike Ghelfi - in a Cape Cod Pro-Am at Cummaquid GC. Dantas also won the pro-pro division, teaming with Jesse Schechtman.

Briana Vega of Andover parlayed rounds of 71-70-71 -212 into a share of 11th in last week's Futures Tour stop in McAllen, Texas.

Amateurs
Tourney time
Windbreakers. Rainsuits. Sun screen. Competitors will have to be ready for anything, because it's time for serious golf, rain or shine. Seen as a lead-in to the local competitive schedule, the annual two-day, 36-hole Cronin Memorial will tee off today at the Country Club of Halifax, but many players won't have to wait long for the next event. That's because the MGA State Four-Ball Championship will be held Monday and Tuesday at Maplegate CC and Franklin CC. Tee times for the State Four-Ball are available on mgalinks.org.

Jim Currier of Tewksbury shot 74 to post a two-stroke victory in a Tour of Greater Boston tournament at Juniper Hills in Northborough.

In a Boston Amateur Golf Society tournament at Sandy Burr in Wayland, Paul Mitchell scored a two-stroke win by shooting 74. Jeff Mucciarone of Westwood rolled to a five-stroke win with a round of 72 in an earlier tournament at the Milton-Hoosic Club.

Tournaments

Tickets for the fourth annual BJ's Charity Championship will go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. Part of The Legends Tour, the $500,000 tournament featuring many of the LPGA Tour's great names will be held Aug. 1-3, once again at Granite Links GC in Quincy. Single-day tickets will be $10, while a three-day pass is $25. You can purchase them by calling the championship office at 617-721-3931. Collegians
Sweeney is OK
Navigating fierce weather over a demanding Karsten Creek GC in Stillwater, Okla., Jaclyn Sweeney posted an impressive victory in the Big 12 Women's Championship. The Andover native and Leadbetter Golf Academy graduate shot 74-74-77 and prevailed by four strokes, helping Oklahoma State roll to the team title.

Bryant has been seeded second, UMass-Lowell sixth, and Bentley eighth in the 54-hole NCAA Division 2 East-Northeast Regional, scheduled to begin Monday in Middletown, Del. The winner will move on to the national championship May 12-17 in Houston.

UMass-Lowell recently placed fourth in the AIC Invitational, while the hosts finished sixth and Bentley eighth. Alex Daley of Bryant shot 72-69 to finish sixth, with Anthony Gallardo (79-74) of UML tied for ninth.

Bryant got a medalist performance from Jason Thresher (73-69) to pave its victory in the Northeast Invitational at Green Valley CC in Portsmouth, R.I. Sacred Heart finished second, while the University of Rhode Island was fifth. Bryant players also finished sixth (Scott Congdon, 74-73) and seventh (Nick Caccia, 74-74).

Johnson & Wales (Providence) captured its own spring invitational, while Nick Lombardi of Worcester State took medalist honors with a 72 to help his team finish second. UMass-Dartmouth was third.

The other Johnson & Wales squad, the one based in Miami, rolled to victory in the Jack Barry Invitational, which was hosted by MIT at Stow Acres CC. UMass-Dartmouth was second, Brandeis third. Lee Bloom of Brandeis and Tyler Kett of UMD shared medalist honors at 70, while Massachusetts native Chris Hawley, a J&W freshman, shot 71.

Williams rolled to victory at the NESCAC Championship in Kensington, Conn., but Middlebury's George Baumann (69-75) captured medalist honors. Jay Driscoll of Milton, a freshman at Trinity College, had the second day's low round, a 72, and finished tied for fifth.

People
Father's day
Though he defied long odds with a pair of aces within three weeks, Bob Baldassari of Paradise Golf in Middleton was willing to reveal a little bit of the secret. "I owe everything to my son," said the longtime NEPGA member after his winter achievement in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was referring to the fact his son, Bob, is the general manager of the PGA Country Club where the first of the hole-in-ones occurred, a 6-iron at the 166-yard second. A few weeks later he used an 8-iron at the 135-yard third hole at the Wannamaker Course at the PGA of America facility that last year hired his son, a former winner of the PGA of America's "Presidents' Plaque" for distinguished work in player development.

Joe Motzi of Humarock used a 5-iron to ace the 169-yard fifth hole at Green Harbor GC in Marshfield.
