Bourne's Jade Antonangeli scored her fifth goal of the game with just 54 seconds left to lead her team to a thrilling 10-9 win over visiting Milton in the first round of the Division 2 South girls' lacrosse tournament.
Milton (11-9) held a 6-5 lead at the half, and stayed with the fourth-seeded Canalmen (13-4-1) for the whole game. But Bourne's midfielders proved the difference as Antonangeli and Kayleigh Dube combined for nine goals.
Bourne's starters played the entire second half, which featured back-and-forth scoring. After Milton knotted the game at 9 late, Antonangeli put in the winner.
"Every three minutes it seemed like it flipped back and forth," said Bourne coach Samantha Ziehl. "Because we are a small team, everybody just had to play a little harder."
Ziehl credited the Antonangeli's field awareness and her schooling of sophomore teammate, Dube, as the key to the game.
"[Antonangeli] just has really good game sense, and Dube is developing the same game sense," said Ziehl.
Sophomore Taylor Corsano added the other goal for the Canalmen, and freshman keeper Alex Goward stopped 14 shots.
