Sore QB's antics are questioned

While defending their quarterback yesterday from critics worried about his mental state, the Titans had to reschedule a test on Vince Young's sprained left knee.

Young's detractors claimed he quit on his team in the season opener.

Young was intercepted midway through the fourth quarter of the 17-10 win over Jacksonville Sunday and walked to the sideline to a chorus of boos from the home fans. He threw his helmet and sat on a bench with a towel over his head. His defense forced Jacksonville into a three-and-out, and the offense went on the field - with Young still on the sideline.

Backup Kerry Collins started taking practice snaps, and coach Jeff Fisher pulled off his headset to talk with Young. The quarterback then put on his helmet and took the field. Four plays later, he rolled out and Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith collided with Young's left knee.

The Titans rescheduled Young's MRI for today. Once Fisher announced no updates on his quarterback's knee, the questions started about Young's actions. As he did Sunday, Fisher said the discussion only involved Young's tight hamstring and whether he could play.

Asked about how upset he looked, Fisher cautioned against reading too much into his taking off the headset.

"I had an offensive group on the field and the referee is getting ready to wind the play clock, and I had a quarterback on the sideline. If I appeared upset, it's because I wanted to get my quarterback on the field so we could go," Fisher said.

"I think the bigger issue now is his knee. I'd be [more] concerned about his knee than what happened [Sunday]."

Burleson lost for year

Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson is out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Burleson is facing surgery after losing his footing on a rain-slicked field in Buffalo Sunday. Seattle's starting running back, Maurice Morris, will miss at least the next two games with a sprained knee . . . The Jaguars lost both starting guards to injuries Sunday. Vince Manuwai is out for the season after tearing his right ACL, and Maurice Williams will be sidelined for at least two months with a ruptured right biceps.

Feely to kick for Jets

Veteran kicker Jay Feely signed with the Jets, according to his agent, and will replace the injured Mike Nugent (thigh) for at least Sunday's game against the Patriots. Feely, an eight-year veteran who was cut by Kansas City last month, was 21 of 23 on field goal attempts for Miami last year . . . Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia is questionable for this week's home game against Atlanta after spraining an ankle in Sunday's loss to the Saints. If Garcia can't play, Brian Griese likely will start . . . Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle (separated throwing shoulder) will be "week to week," according to coach Herm Edwards. Damon Huard will start this week against Oakland.

Peters wants to play

Jason Peters rejoined his Buffalo teammates for the first time since ending an offseason-long holdout, and proclaimed his intention to play this weekend at Jacksonville. The Pro Bowl left tackle participated in yesterday's walkthrough session. Coach Dick Jauron said that while Peters passed the team's physical and arrived in very good shape, it's too early to determine when the player will be added to the active roster . . . Chargers star back LaDainian Tomlinson said X-rays were negative on his jammed right big toe. "I don't think it's anything serious," he said . . . Rams wide receiver Drew Bennett fractured his left foot in the first series against Philadelphia and will be sidelined at least a month . . . The Cowboys signed quarterback Brooks Bollinger.
