Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera left in the second inning because of right ankle soreness, but manager Jim Leyland said he expects Cabrera to play Friday, possibly as the DH.

Justin Verlander passed Jim Bunning for fifth place on the Tigers’ all-time strikeout list with 1,407.

Twins starter Scott Diamond was ejected in the third inning by plate umpire Wally Bell after throwing a pitch behind Josh Hamilton’s head. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire also was tossed after arguing the decision.
