Franklin Morales struggles in relief

Franklin Morales’s voice wavered and his eyes wandered to the far walls of the Red Sox clubhouse as he spoke. He wanted to have the answers, but he kept repeating variations of the same word over and over: Try.

He tried to throw a strike. He tried rotating his pitches. He tried to slow down between pitches.

And the most discomforting aspect of it all? Morales, the lefty who has been on the disabled list five times since 2009, has never felt healthier.

Morales entered against the Angels in the seventh inning. The Red Sox trailed by one run. By the time the inning was over, he had charged with four runs on two hits and four walks and the Sox were trailing, 7-2.
