New Clippers coach Doc Rivers named his coaching staff, including Alvin Gentry, who returns for a third stint with the team. Gentry was named associate head coach, while former Celtics assistants Armond Hill, Kevin Eastman, and Tyronn Lue will serve as assistants. JP Clark was hired as assistant players skill coach.

The Cavaliers hosted free agent center Andrew Bynum, a person familiar with the visit told The Associated Press. The 7-foot Bynum didn’t play one game for Philadelphia last season because of a knee injury.

In other news: Phillies slugger Ryan Howard needs surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss at least six to eight weeks. An MRI confirmed the tear and A date for surgery hasn’t been set.
