Classic players can report to camp Feb. 1

NEW YORK --Major league players preparing for the World Baseball Classic may report to spring training as early as Feb. 1.

Under an agreement between the commissioner's office and the players' association announced Monday, players will start receiving spring training money as soon as they report. The weekly spring training allowance is $262.50, the weekly supplemental allowance for players not living at the club headquarters is $46.50 and the daily meal allowance is $74.

Other players start reporting Feb. 15, with workouts for pitchers, catchers and injured players beginning the following day for some teams. Position players can start working out Feb. 21.
